Reiki in Medical Settings
Complementary CareĀ
The following articles give some insight into offering Reiki in Medical settings.
Reiki is very well suited for medical settings because it:
- doesn't interfere with any other treatmentĀ
- has been safely practiced for over 100 years
- down regulates the nervous system - shifting out of Stress Response into Relaxation Response supports the body's natural ability to heal.Ā
- fosters relaxation (body, mind and spirit)
- is very adaptable to the setting (no equipment necessary)
- is already welcomed by over 800 hospitals across the country
Remember as you present this opportunity to:
- emphasis positive potential outcomes (see the information in your Level 1 training resources) rather than "energy healing" or "intuitively guided" or "channeling Universal Life Force Energy"Ā
- highlight that you are offering complementary support vs HEALING
- offer to support the medical STAFF as well as the patients (they are often overwhelmed and in need of Reiki, too)
- start small - mini "reset sessions" of 20 minutes are a beautiful offeringĀ
- research the websites of the medical facilities in your area to see what they say about Reiki
- create a simple one sheet explanation of how Reiki can support "good outcomes" (that's the phrase medical professionals use)Ā Ā
- whenever you might want to allude to "energy" say "biofield" as that is a medically accepted word for energy field.
Your initial aim is to have the opportunity to offer supportive sessions that will speak for themselves so this may sound counterintuitive but be enthusiastic AND somewhat understated - big promises can be off putting in medical settings.Ā
